For over 25 years, the ladies in the St. Elizabeth Guild have combined creative forces to offer its annual craft and bake sale, a benefit for St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.
“We work all year for this sale, and every item is handmade in Elizabethton,” said guild secretary Lilo Duncan.
The sale will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on 510 W. C. St.
The 12 members of the guild will have some of their traditional favorites available as well as a slew of new items like wreaths, covered bridge and monument magnets, holiday wall hangings, purses and kids’ nap bags.
Returning items are holiday and Fall decorations including Christmas ornaments, reindeer, table runners, place mats and rocking chair covers. A fresh variety of quilts and quilted goods will be available as well as bibs, adult bibs, baby blankets, scarves, hats and a cornucopia of other unique and multi-functional items.
Member Mary Lee Klapp said they almost always sell out of quilts because they are of such high quality for affordable prices.
“In my first year, I almost passed out when I saw the prices,” said Klapp.
Aside from crafts, members of the church will provide baked treats. One of the annual favorites are homemade egg rolls which disappear quite quickly.
“I got one egg roll in the three years that I’ve participated — they’re that good,” said Klapp.
This is the guild’s largest fundraiser for the church, bringing in around $2,000 annually, and the quality of the products is no secret.
“You’d be amazed at how many people are here right at 9 a.m.,” said Klapp.
The guild meets every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning in January to make everything for the sale.
“We’ve worked really hard this year, and I think it shows,” said Klapp.
Members include Marsha Hupko, Duncan, Klapp, Delores King, Betty Jo Barker, Judy Kilby, Wanda Manning, Barbara White, Theresa Doty, Maureen Stricklind, Mary Locy and Jenny Mace.
