Melanie Dawn Parkey Oliver, 51, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va. She was born June 24, 1964 in Carter County.
Melanie was a 1982 graduate of Elizabethton High School where she was a member of the Betsy Band. She attended East Tennessee State University. She was a former Manager of Long John Silvers, Johnson City.
Melanie loved to cook and loved animals. She attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church.
Melanie was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Gail White Parkey; her maternal grandparents, Clyde H. and Chelsie White; and her paternal grandparents, Rev. Stanley and Pearl Parkey of Erwin.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Joe Oliver; her children, Andrew Oliver and Megan Oliver; two grandsons, Jeremiah and Ricky; her father, Donald Parkey, Elizabethton; a sister, Laura Ashley Perkey and husband Steve, Johnson City; several aunts, uncles and cousins; her mother-in-law, Margaret Stout; her brother-in-law, Danny Stout; and her special friends, Paula Hall and Jeanie Pierce.
The funeral service for Melanie Dawn Parkey Oliver will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, November 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dennis Wilson officiating. Music will be provided by Pastor David Foster. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, November 9, in the Treadway Cemetery (Siam Road). Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.
