Don’t let the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club’s 53rd Pancake Day “crepe” by without getting your fill!
Chief Flipper Richard Barker will be pouring, flipping and stacking all morning to raise money for the numerous events and clubs that Kiwanis sponsors locally. Dr. Harold Lane, a long time member, will help cook as well.
The cooks will be assisted by their fellow Kiwanians, who will be on hand to serve breakfast guests and help fill take-out orders.
The event will take place at the First United Methodist Church, 325 E. E St. on Saturday from 7-10:30 a.m. Tickets are $7 at the door, and take-out is available.
The traditional meal will include hot, buttery pancakes, sizzling sausage, milk, juice and coffee.
Secretary Bill Fryar said the community event is a staple on locals’ calendars.
“Its longevity and continuity are what makes it stand out, and we have people that don’t miss it year after year,” said Fryar.
The Kiwanis Club sponsors five youth Kiwanis organizations: Kiwanis Kids at Harold McCormick, East Side and West Side Elementary Schools and Key Clubs at Unaka and Elizabethton High Schools.
The UHS Key Club is the newest, and this will be its members’ second opportunity serving at the pancake breakfast, along with EHS club members.
Kiwanis Secretary Bill Fryar said the focus of the club is on youth and child service. They support the Carter County Head Start Program, providing winter clothing and shoes to families in need as well as funding its annual Christmas party. The clubs also work closely with the Imagination Library.
