Myrtle Gilbert Stout, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, from Johnson City Medical Center. Myrtle was born in Carter County, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late Eller and Bertha Potter Gilbert. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Roma D. Stout; one brother, J.C. Gilbert; and one sister, Anna Lee Ellenberger.
Myrtle graduated from Hampton High School and was a member of the Hampton Ladies Basketball Team. She began her professional career as a cake decorator with Alison Bakery and the Giant Food Market, and proceeded on to Food Lion and Winn Dixie. After retiring from Winn Dixie, she started a second career as the “Popcorn Lady” at Citizens Bank for over 15 years.
Myrtle was a member of the Valley Forge Christian Church for over 60 years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved daughter and son-in-law. Her job was anything but a job for her, it was a joy for her to go to work and meet and greet old and new friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and David Shell of Johnson City; one brother, Leonard Gilbert and wife Barbara of Butler; two sisters, Betty Trivette and husband Ernest of Butler and Billie Andrews and husband Charlie of Bluff City. Several nieces and nephews, as well as her granddaughter and the light of her life, Blair Aderhold, of Pensacola, Fla., also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Myrtle Gilbert Stout will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, November 13, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. David Siebenaler and Mr. H. Clay Bailey, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be the men of Valley Forge Christian Church. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 9 a.m. Saturday to go in procession. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Valley Forge Christian Church, 114 V F Christian Church Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
