Jerry Erwin Griffey

Jerry Erwin Griffey, 76, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Jerry was a native of Carter County and a son of the late James Dalmas Griffey and Hazel Winters Griffey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Griffey.
Jerry was a retired carpenter and was of the Baptist faith. He had served with the National Guard for 15 years and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing and college basketball and football, especially the Tennessee Volunteers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, Jackie Griffey, of the home; two sons, Scottie Erwin Griffey of Shreveport, La., and Donald Lynn Griffey and wife Jama of Granite Falls, N.C.; two daughters, Scarlett Merritt and husband Ron, and Rebecca Schultz, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynn Hawkins and Ashley Nicole Hartley, both of Granite Falls, N.C., Logan Schultz and Amanda Henthorne, both of Elizabethton, Chad Griffey of Ohio, and Joshua Weaver of Raleigh, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Jerry Erwin Griffey will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, November 30, in the Highland Cemetery with Pastor Kenneth Bewly officiating. Music will be provided by Vickie Lynn Ferrell. Friends may call at the residence at anytime. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Lipford, P.I. Williams, Jack Lipford, Dr. Charles Famoyin, Dr. Ahmed Khan and his boyhood friends of the Black Bottom Community. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Highland Cemetery of Elizabethton at 1:50 p.m. Monday.
