Maude E. Whitson

Maude E. Whitson, 100, of Johnson City, formerly of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from Lakebridge Health Care Center. Maude was born in Eolia, Ky., a daughter of the late William H. Whitson Sr. and Edna Estep Whitson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Whitson and Bill Whitson, and two sisters, Hazel Young and Doris Whitson.
Maude had worked for North American Rayon Corporation, as a manager for Margie’s Dress Shop and she also worked with her sister at Barbara Pless Florist Shop. She was the oldest living member of Calvary Baptist Church and was the reigning Mrs. Lakebridge for 2015 and Valentine Queen for 2014 and 2015. Maude was sweet, caring, loving and devoted to her family. Her family and church family were the joys of her life.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sisters, Barbara Pless, of Johnson City, Tenn., and Mae Hurd, of Nashville, Tenn.; and one sister-in-law, Marcie McMillan, of Chattanooga, Tenn. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews also survive.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Maude E. Whitson will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 6, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Joe Sorah officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Lakebridge Health Care Center for the love and care shown to Maude and to Silver Angels, especially Cindy Montgomery and Kathy McGaha. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Calvary Baptist Church, 225 N. Holly Lane, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
