After dropping a tough 53-50 contest to Hampton on Thursday night, the Happy Valley Lady Warriors needed two things—a little rest and a win to get back on track at Bayless Gymnasium on Friday night.

They got both as Coach Larry Abel’s squad came out of the starting block with engines full blast to run out to 40-12 advantage over Sullivan North and cruised to the finish line with a 74-32 victory.

“We got our confidence back tonight after a night like last night where the bucket seemed to have a lid on it,” said Abel after the contest. “We were able to get everyone on the scoring sheet tonight. We also had our season high in assist with 13.

“We missed some opportunities early on last night on the inside look. We were more alert tonight for those looks.”

It was simply too much KJ, Kalee Johnson, in the first half as the senior leader blistered the nets for 16 first-half points to set the tone early for the Lady Warriors.

Johnson had plenty of support as Charli Bare netted six points while Bayley McGee and Sydney Puckett swished the cotton for four points each.

North received four points from Erin Schwartz to lead the Lady Raider charge in the half.

The second half played out pretty much the way the first half finished as the Lady Warriors continued to build on their lead going behind the arc in the third period to nail a total of five treys to take a 62-28 lead after three complete quarters.

Johnson accounted for two of those while Puckett, Adrienne Henegar, and Kaitlin Depriest recorded a three-ball apiece.

Abel went deep into his bench in the final quarter making sure everyone got adequate playing time.

Johnson finished with a game-high 22 points with Bare reaching double figures with 11. Puckett had a nice game finishing with nine points for the Lady Warriors.

McGee totaled six points.

Brianna Buck crashed the boards for seven rebounds with Bare hauling in six. KJ added six steals and four assist. McGee added four steals while Kenzie Davis had four assist.

Schwartz led the Lady Raiders with 10 points for the game. Abby Robinson chipped in with six.

The Warriors also rebounded from a defeat on Thursday night to Hampton by garnering a Three Rivers Conference win over the visiting North Raiders.

The final score was misleading as the Warriors had the upper hand throughout the contest.

Tyler Torbett was the spark plug that fired Coach Chuck Babb’s Warriors as Torbett crashed the boards to score 20 points in the first three quarters to propel Happy Valley to a 54-34 edge heading into the final period of play.

The Warriors closed out the contest down the stretch to take the 12-point win.

Tyler Arnold of North was the game-high scorer draining the bucket to the tune of 25 points for the contest. Zack Byrns of the Raiders added 11 in the losing effort.

Torbett barely touched the court in the fourth but his effort was good enough to lead the Warriors in scoring with 20. Nathan Kyte registered 10 points to aid the winning cause.

Josh Hammonds contributed with eight points and Austin Hicks knocked down seven as well for Happy Valley who recorded their first conference win of the 2015 season.
