Allen D. Whitehead

Allen D. Whitehead, 74, 955 Simerly Creek Road, Hampton, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Unicoi County, he was a son of the late George Blaine Whitehead and Gladys Jones Whitehead Grubb. He had lived most of his life in Carter County.
Allen was a graduate of Hampton High School. He was a retired Yard Foreman at Paty Lumber Company for over 40 years. He was a member of Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Jerome Whitehead and Roy Whitehead, and his step-father, Walt Grubb.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Martha Louise Birchfield Whitehead; two sons, Mark Allen Whitehead and wife Lisa, Hampton, and Neil Scott Whitehead, of the home.; two grandchildren (his pride and joy), Matthew Allen and Meagan Alyse Whitehead; and two brothers, Gary Tim Whitehead and George Wayne Whitehead, both of Mooresville, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Whitehead will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bob Campbell officiating. Music will be provided by Vickie Buchanan and Mark Whitehead. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, in the Captain Nelson Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday, will be Matthew Whitehead, Chuckey Jones, Bob Grindstaff, Doyle Jones, Charles Jolly, Paul Vance, Glen Davis and Eric Ross. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Fenner, Rick McKinney, Tom Ayers, J.B. Shepherd, Charles Fender and his church family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. The family requests no flowers; donations may be made to the family to help with expenses. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery.
