Christine Smith Oxendine

Christine Smith Oxendine, 92, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Hillview Health Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Florence Simerly Smith.
Christine was a retired employee of Tri-State Container. She was a member of Borderview Christian Church. She loved working in her flowers and in her garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Oxendine, who died November 29, 2006; a brother, Richard Vernon “Cotton” Smith; and two sisters, June Steffen and Betty Nave.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Gayla and Maurice Graves, Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Jody Shipley and Tina Hardin; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Shipley; two sisters, Geraldine Livingston, Elizabethton, and JoAnn Cable and husband Elbert, Butler; a brother, Terry Smith and wife Barbara of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Christine Smith Oxendine will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Sammy Oxendine and Mr. Scott Fisher, ministers, officiating. Music will be provided by Ray Don Markland and Scott Reynolds. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Danny McGinnis, Greg Crowe, Ray Don Markland, Eddie Taylor, Joseph Greenwell and Adam Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.
