Ted Marshall Barnett, 82, of Elizabethton, Tenn., entered heaven’s gates Saturday, December 19, 2015. A native of Avery County, N.C., he was the son of the late Herman and Gladys Heaton Barnett.
Ted was a faithful member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church until his illness. He served as deacon for 37 years and had served as a superintendent and treasurer.
Mr. Barnett retired from the Conservation Department at Roan Mountain State Park.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Barnett, and his wife, Sue; a sister-in-law, Donna Troutman; and an infant nephew, Joshua Troutman.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Mary Ruth Troutman Barnett, of the home; a daughter, Terri Blevins and husband Carter; his beloved granddaughter, Sarah Blevins Putland and husband Steve; brothers-in-law, Bill Troutman, Blountville, Jim Troutman, Elizabethton, and Don Troutman and wife Daris, Bluff City; one sister-in-law, Ella Mae Street and husband Richard, Gray; two aunts, Willie Barnett, Hampton, and Dorothy Heaton, Elizabethton; nephews, Justin Barnette and Gordon Barnette and wife Bridgett; special cousins and friends, Delaney Crain, Jan Largent, Glenda Gouge, Jack and Willie Troutman, Steve and Vickie Dyer, Larry and Alma Gouge, Eddie and Betty Hughes and Wayne and Wanda Stocton; and special neighbors, Steve Gernt, Rick, Kathy and Austin Boling.
A service to honor the life of Ted Marshall Barnett will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, December 21, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Richard Blevins and Rev. Todd Hallman officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, prior to the funeral service, or at the residence at other times. Interment will follow the funeral service on Monday at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Justin Barnette, Gordon Barnette, Richard Street, Brad Street, Tim Troutman, Eddie Hughes, Larry Gouge, Raymond Dugger and Danny Street.
