Eddie R. Roberts, 58, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Ike and Betty Campbell Roberts.
Eddie was retired from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety — Avery-Mitchell Correctional Center. He was formerly employed with the Carter County Work Camp. He was a Board Member with the West Carter County Volunteer Fire Department. He previously attended Upper Gap Creek Free Will Baptist Church.
Eddie loved to hunt, go to auctions, ride his Harley and loved guns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Johnny Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shavonne Watson Roberts (they started dating when they were 15 and 16 years old); two daughters, Shon Blevins and her husband Dale, who Eddie loved like a son, and Rebecca Roberts-McKeehan, all of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Kaitlyn McKeehan, Brandon Blevins and Casey Blevins; and a sister, Trula Walker, Elizabethton.
Funeral services for Mr. Roberts will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with his son-in-law, Rev. Dale Blevins, and his best friend, Rev. John Hicks, officiating. The closing prayer will be given by his friend, Travis Chesser. Music will be provided by Shon Blevins, Darleen Tolley and Aileen Street. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, in the Lyons Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, will be Brandon Blevins, Casey Blevins, Travis Chesser, Gary Hodge, Roger Woods, Tim Stallard, Ronnie Walker, Lynn Walker, Bob Roberts and Billy Garrett. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Avery-Mitchell Correctional Center, employees of the North Carolina Department of Transportation and employees of WW Cab Company, Doug Laws, Tony Eller, Randy Garland, Randy Banner, David Clemons, Richard Miller, Bruce Hall, Ronnie Hall, Jon Whitson, Bob Culler, Steve Culler and Glen Henegar. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Michelle Davenport, MD; the staff of Health & Home Care, especially Shelley and Matt; employees of Wilcox Hall of Holston Valley Medical Center: Cristel, Kiley and Kristy; employees of the 2500 Wing of Johnson City Medical Center: Thomas, Amy, Kelly, Jessica, Ruthie, Linda, Cortney and Shirley Capps; and the Carter County Rescue Squad. Honors will be provided at the funeral home by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday.
