Katherine B. Hendrix, 96, of Johnson City, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at Hillview Health Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel M. and Rebekah Smith Brumit.
Katherine was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and East Tennessee State University. She taught school at Valley Forge Elementary for two years and 28 years in the Elizabethton City Schools. She retired in 1981 as a librarian at T.A. Dugger Junior High School.
She was a member of Hopwood Christian Church at Milligan. She was a Sunday School Teacher and secretary of the Sunday School for several years. She was a member of the Friends and Neighbors Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter M. Hendrix; five sisters; two brothers; and one granddaughter, Jocelyn B. Hendrix.
She is survived by two sons, Walter M. “Skip” Hendrix and wife Kristin, Tallahassee, Fla., and Daniel Hendrix and wife Denise, Johnson City; a daughter, Mary Frances Hendrix, Hopkins, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Nikki Pettit and husband Neil, Fletcher, N.C., Dustin Hendrix and wife Courtney, Virginia Beach, Va., Chelsea Kathleen Conner, Columbia, S.C., and Lyndee and Londyn Hendrix, Tallahassee, Fla.
Funeral services for Katherine B. Hendrix will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, January 7, at Hopwood Christian Church with Mr. Tim Ross, minister, officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 8, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at Hopwood Christian Church at 5:50 p.m. Thursday and also at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 10:20 a.m. Friday, will be Kenneth Hendrix, Henry Hendrix, Clark Verran, Glenn McQueen, Dustin Hendrix, Neil Pettit, Jeff Holt and Mike Lingerfelt. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Hendrix, Douglas Hendrix, Tom Holland, Lynn Holland, Larry Hendrix and men of the Friends and Neighbors Sunday School Class at Hopwood Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Hopwood Christian Church. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Friday to attend the graveside service.
