Evelyn Bernice Combs Oxendine

Evelyn Bernice Combs Oxendine, 93, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, January 7, 2016, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Rula Fair Combs.
Mrs. Oxendine was retired from Empire Furniture Company. She was a member of St. John Free Will Baptist Church. She loved her family and her church family. She also loved to cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Avril Oxendine, and a son, Larry Oxendine.
Survivors include three daughters, Elatia Oxendine, Maiden, N.C., Katie Barnett and husband Wesley, Newland, N.C., and Melba Boone and husband John, Elk Park, N.C.; a son, Bob Oxendine and wife Brenda, China Grove, N.C.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Howell, Columbia, S.C.; her lifelong friend, Brenda Johnson; her special niece, Jeanette Sumner and husband Jerry; her special friends, Roger Morgan, Hazel Jarrett, Brenda and Perry Oxendine; and the Congregation of St. John Free Will Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Saturday, January 9, at the funeral home. The graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Peters Cemetery, Roan Mountain, with the Rev. Richard Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for the excellent care she received.
