Though she works full time and is a mother of two, Katie Walser took up a new hobby: acrylic painting.
“I just decided to try it this summer, and for Christmas, I wanted to paint something for family members,” said Walser.
As a child, Wasler’s grandmother Gloria Brown, wife of Gaither Brown, took her to the Covered Bridge every month to play and enjoy the scenery.
“We would have lunch and go to the bridge, and there was a Victorian house we would always walk by, and we’d watch the ducks,” recalls Walser of memories now years past. “I remember it always being like a trip, even though it was only 20 minutes from our house It was definitely a treat.”
When looking for ideas of something to paint her Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jim Wilcox in Elizabethton, she came across photos of the bridge. As memories from childhood flooded in of those visits with her late grandmother, she decided to paint she should paint the Covered Bridge.
Though Walser was out of town when her aunt and uncle received the painting, her mother said they were thrilled.
