Douglas Grant Thompson “Doug,” 71, of Watauga, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 15, 2016, at his residence. Doug was born in Sallisaw, Okla., to the late Carroll and Thelma Dean Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim.
Doug was a member of the Geary, Oklahoma Class of 1962. He moved to Tennessee in the mid-1970s to be the manager of TG& Y, before beginning a career at Citizens Bank of Elizabethton. He retired as Senior Vice President after 35 years of service. He was a past president of Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce of Elizabethton. During his retirement, Doug enjoyed reading, photography and expanded his love of travel, including regular trips to Tybee Island, Ga.
He is survived by his son, Doug S. Thompson; his daughter, Cyndi Thompson and Mitch Potter; a brother, Forrest Thompson; the mother of his children, Jackie Thompson; his longtime friend, Richard Sharpin; and his traveling companion, Carol Dodson.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 6, between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. at the Johnson City Country Club. Online condolences may be shared with the family at our website, www.tetrickfuneralhome.com.
