Eric Javan Sewell

Eric Javan Sewell, 56, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016.
A native of Shelby, N.C., he was a son of the late Aaron Joshua and Martha Smith Sewell. He had lived in East Tennessee since 1970.
Eric was a 1979 graduate of Science Hill High School and attended Bristol College. He worked for 29 years for the Elizabethton and Johnson City Boys & Girls Club. He had formerly served on several civic organizations in Johnson City and Elizabethton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Sewell.
Survivors include a son, Evan Joshua Sewell; a daughter, Lillian Rachael Sewell; a step-son, Logan Heaton; the mother of his children, Vickie Pleasant Sewell; four sisters, Annas Duncan and husband Roderick, Memphis, Marchelle Allen and Tina Sewell, both of North Carolina, and Stacey Sewell, Elizabethton; and a brother, Eddie Sewell and wife Julia of North Carolina. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. Sewell will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, January 31, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harold Mains officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may also visit with the family at 1274 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northeast Community Credit Union, 980 Jason Witten Way, Elizabethton, TN 37643 for a trust for his children. It was his wish to be cremated.
