George Williams Jr., 83, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George Williams Sr. and Laura Oliver Williams.
Junior formerly worked at Western Auto and was a mechanic and farmer. He was an active member of East Side Christian Church, where he served as an Elder, Secretary and Treasurer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Mann Williams, and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie and Curtis Hyder, Sharon Williams and Amber Williams, all of Elizabethton; five sons and five daughters-in-law, Bobby and Renee Williams, Dennis and Donna Williams and Tim and Angie Williams, all of Elizabethton, Danny and Vickie Williams, Kingsport, and Terry and Judy Williams, Columbia, Tenn.; a sister, Geraldine Baird, Elizabethton; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law.
Funeral services for George Williams Jr. will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. John H. Smith and Mr. Charles Fitzsimmons, ministers, officiating. Music will be provided by Gerald and Gloria Holly. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 3, in the Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Harrell, John Williams, Alton Philyaw Jr., Randy Lewis Jr., Tommy Williams, Danny Williams Jr. and Jonathan Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacy Harrell, Art Smithdeal, Joe Smithdeal, Curtis Hyder, Travis Moreland, Matt Kutz and his church family. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Curtis Hyder, 908 James Street, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website at www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
