Joanne Woods, 77, of Hampton, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center. Joanne was born in Waynesville, N.C., but had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Baumgardner Ensley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hale Woods, and a son, Richard Woods.
Joanne was a former employee of Sperry Univac and Texas Instruments, but she retired from North American Rayon Corporation. She received an award while employed with Texas Instruments for computer design. She was a member of Eastside Christian Church and a member of the Cherokee Tribe Bear Clan.
Joanne was also a member of the Hampton Order of Eastern Star. She was smart, self-sufficient, kind, had a strong spiritual belief and loved to sew and cook.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Bradley Joe Woods and wife Amy, Johnson City; two grandsons; two granddaughters, Rachel Salte and Ashley Sell; one great-grandson, Omari Cody; her husband of 35 years, Richard Crawford, of the home; a brother-in-law and his wife, Wade and Mildred Woods, Elizabethton; and her special friends, Lewis Carter, Tony Woods, Darrell Woods, Jackie Buck and Paul K. Jones.
A gathering of remembrance for Joanne Woods will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 4, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Charles Fitzsimmons, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Final disposition will be announced at a later time. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Johnson City Medical Center and the Cardiac ICU staff for the love and care shown to Mrs. Woods during her illness.
