Renolee Holtsclaw Whitehead, 71, of Roan Mountain, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 9, 2016, with her children by her side.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Weaver and Nettie Edney Holtsclaw.
Mrs. Whitehead was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Whitehead, and by five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her children, Ricky Delaney Holtsclaw and fiancée Pauline Hardin of Indiana, Leda Kay Holtsclaw and fiancé Newt Maltba, Newland, N.C., Sylvia (Mitchell) Tolley, Elizabethton, J.D. Jr. (Carolyn) Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Jada (Robbie) Calloway, Newland, N.C., Roberta (Ronnie) Whitehead, Hampton, Ronald Whitehead and Scottie Whitehead, both of Roan Mountain; and her sisters, Wanda Cooper, Onza Johnson and Beulah Hughes, all of Roan Mountain. Nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services for Renolee Holtsclaw Whitehead will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jude Hughes officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 12, in the Cornett Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m. Friday, will be Jonathan Tolley, Jeremiah Tolley, Isaac Tolley, Christopher J. Whitehead, McKinley Calloway, Chris Hughes, Randy Whitehead, Arden Whitehead and Wayne Whitehead. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Whitehead, Robert Whitehead Sr., Leonard Johnson, Jimmy McKinney, Robbie Calloway, Ronnie Whitehead and Mitchell Tolley. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the funeral home to help defray expenses. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 12:55 p.m. Friday.
