KINGSPORT— for one half the Elizabethton Cyclones looked like they had got back to their old selves as they built a six-point edge going to the locker room.

However, Sullivan South decided to take matters into their own hands in the second half and the result was a 53-50 win for the Rebels and the third place hardware.

“I am very disappointed,” said Cyclone head coach Lucas Honeycutt. “Our effort, our ability to follow the scouting report—just the same mistakes.

“They have got to realize that the season is not over and realize it quick. We play on Saturday and have two days to practice and work on the things we just talked about,” added Honeycutt.  “A lot of it for us is just mental. Doing what we are supposed to do and mental toughness all around is what we are lacking right now. It’s not a physical thing.”

South quickly came out and established themselves behind Evan Morris who has come on strong for the Rebels the last three weeks. Morris scored 20 points to lead all scorers in the contest.

South salted the game away in the fourth as they would outscore the Cyclones 13-9 to take the game.

The Cyclones actually had a couple of times to even the score but the two shots from beyond the mark were errant and South managed to run out the clock for the win.

Bo Pless led the Cyclones with 14 points for the contest. Michael Robinson added nine with Teve Mushayamunda and Eric Wilson adding seven points apiece.

Garrett Bowery followed Morris with 13 points as the only other Rebel player in double figures. Grant Phebus chipped in with seven points.

The Cyclones travel to Cumberland Gap on Saturday in the first round of the regional. The Rebels draw Greeneville on the road also.
