Charles Henry Boling Sr.

BLUFF CITY — Charles Henry Boling Sr., 94, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016, at his home in the presence of his family. He showed as much courage in death as throughout his life and wanted to be known and remembered as a hard worker devoted to his family.
He was the son of the late Frank and Hattie Smith Boling and was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Janice Hicks Boling, and son, Jerry Boling.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Friesland and husband David of Gray, Tenn.; two sons, Charles Boling Jr. and wife Brenda of Abingdon, Va., and Raymond Boling, of the home; and one granddaughter, Lauren Boling of Seattle, Wash.
Charles was baptized in the Holston River in his teens and was a member of the Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church for 75 years. He received an honorable discharge after serving in World War II – Company C, 413th Regiment, 104th Army Infantry Division, best known as the “Timberwolves.” Inspired by their son Jerry, Charles and wife Janice became charter members of the ARC Association for Sullivan County. He enjoyed the fellowship of Emanon and Happy Campers Club and traveled around the country with them and his family. He retired in 1983 after 25 years of employment with Raytheon. Charles then started a woodworking business which he operated for the next 23 years.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Monday, February 29, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City. Music will be provided by Chuck Odum. The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday with Rev. Jamie Ferguson officiating. Friends will also be invited to attend a Masonic service immediately following the funeral and conducted by Zollicoffer Lodge #444, Bluff City, Tenn., where Charles was a member for 48 years. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Sunrise Cemetery, Bluff City. Pallbearers, family and friends are asked to gather by 10:50 a.m. at the cemetery. Active pallbearers are Mark Blevins, Bill Morrell, Rodney O’Dell, Bobby Sossoman, Mark Stipes and Matthew Walsh. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church Charlotte Fund, 1727 Chinquapin Grove Road, Bluff City, TN 37618.
