Joe Henry Arney, 94, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Mountain City Care Center, following an extended illness. Joe was born in Johnson City on April 22, 1921 to the late Godfrey and Ellen Walker Arney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dosie Taylor, Nancy Taylor, Polly Swaney and other brothers and sisters.
Joe had done farm work most of his life and was of the Baptist faith.
A graveside service to honor the life of Joe Henry Arney will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, in the Butler Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Steve Spencer and Pastor Kreg Smith officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Elwood Arnold, Howard Stout, Tony Milam, Phil Garver, Ray Stout, Clayton Brown and Thomas Kyte. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 North Boone Street, Johnson City, TN 37601, in honor of Mr. Arney.
