Police are investigating a home invasion robbery after a county man told officers two men forced their way into his home, tied him up and stole several items from his house.
Around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Coal Chute Road after a woman called 911 reporting her neighbor had been robbed.
“Upon arrival I spoke with Elizabeth Smith, who stated that her neighbor, Eugene Woods, came over and started beating on her door saying he had been robbed,” CCSO Deputy Tylor Johnson said. “I then spoke with Mr. Woods and he stated to me that two males knocked on his door. When he went to open the door they forced entry into the residence, hit him in the head with a club and tied him up.”
Woods told the officer the two men were wearing masks.
Among the items Woods reported stolen from his home were his cell phone, medication and several guns. A full list of missing items was not immediately available due to Woods being transported to a local hospital for treatment, Johnson said.
Investigators with the CCSO Criminal Investigations Division were called to the scene and the case was turned over to them.
Anyone who has any information regarding the robbery is asked to contact the Carter County Sheriff’s Office at 423-542-1845. Tips can also be submitted online through the department’s website at www.sheriff.cc/contacts/crime-tip/.
