Doris McGraw Scott

Doris McGraw Scott died peacefully on March 7, 2016 at the age of 73.
Doris is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Scott, of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Deborah Butler, and a brother-in-law, Travis Butler, both of Rogersville, Ala.; a goddaughter, Cecile Simerly, of Asheville, N.C.; two nephews, Scott and Brad Miller of Killen; four great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as several aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hulon and Myrtle McGraw, of Anderson, Ala.
Doris graduated from the University of North Alabama in 1963 with a degree in Home Economics Education and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Development. She married her high school sweetheart, Bill, in 1963 and they enjoyed 52 years together traveling the world and enjoying life on Watauga Lake. After moving to Elizabethton in 1969, Doris taught at Elizabethton High School for 35 years where she taught Home Economics.
Doris was a creative and accomplished cook and seamstress who helped design the Betsy Band majorette uniforms for many years. She loved her animals and was a generous supporter of many animal organizations and the American Cancer Society as well as a regular volunteer at ARM until her illness.
A private service was held on March 8 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Carter County Humane Society.
