Sam Whitehead

Sam Whitehead, 80, of Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Hensley and Mary Ann Ingram Whitehead.
Mr. Whitehead served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Roan Park Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Buster, Bob and George Whitehead, and a son-in-law, William Bill Tolley.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruby Johnson Whitehead; a daughter, Rita Tolley, Roan Mountain; three sons, Kevin Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Clifford Whitehead and fiancée Judy King, Hampton, and Roger Whitehead and wife Margaret, Elizabethton; two brothers, Ray Whitehead, Elizabethton, and Arnold Whitehead and wife Margaret, Roan Mountain; five granddaughters, one grandson and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Robin Whitehead.
Funeral services for Sam Whitehead will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, March 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne Scbish officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Adam Johnson, Darren Lacy, Andy Stout, Rusty Estep, Jimmy Hill, Brandon Arrowood and Allen Lyons. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to his daughter-in-law, Margaret Whitehead, grandson, Travis Whitehead, and Ivy Tester at Mountain States Hospice. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
