Mabel E. Turner

Mabel E. Turner, 88, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mabel was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Howard and Bertha Miller Holsclaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Billy Turner; three brothers, David Holsclaw, Stewart Holsclaw and Howard Junior Holsclaw; and one sister, Virginia Davis.
Mabel was a homemaker, but had been employed at Bemberg and had retired from the East Tennessee Chair Factory. She was a member of Eastside Christian Church for over 60 years and was a member of the ladies circle of the church. She was a wonderful and talented seamstress and was known for making little girls’ dresses and pageant wear.
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Linda Range, of Elizabethton; a son, Larry Turner, of Elizabethton; four granddaughters, Cynthia Range, Jessica Franklin and Lindsey Barnett, all of Elizabethton, and Casey White, of Alabama; two grandsons, Chris White, of Elizabethton, and Brandon Brewer, of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, John Wesley Holsclaw, of Elizabethton; and four sisters, Beatrice Gouge, Mildred Woods and Frances Depew, all of Elizabethton, and Charlotte Brill, of Laurel, Miss.; and a sister-in-law, Lena Bell Collins, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews, along with her special friends, Maxine Gagliano, Brenda Campbell, JoAnn Banner and Mack and Judy McKinney, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Mabel E. Turner will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Charles Fitzsimmons and Mr. John Smith, ministers, officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Jerry Barnett. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence of a daughter, Linda Range, 207 Old Siam Road, Elizabethton, at anytime. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Scott Depew, Jeff Depew, Greg Depew, David Holsclaw, Michael Grindstaff, Tony Woods, Nathan Woods and Buddy Collins.
