Samuel Thomas Oliver, 67, of Hampton, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, with his family and friends by his side at the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Samuel Joseph and Mary Isabell Goode Oliver.
Sam was retired. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and playing his guitar. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his good buddy, Johnny Vines.
Survivors include his children, Brandy (Greg) Trivett, Butler, Samantha Meyer, Jonesborough, and D.J. (Whitney) Oliver, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Kaleigh, Hannah, Shaelynn, Dylan and Samson; his brother, Jim Oliver, Johnson City; two sisters, Mary Greene, Gray, and Shirley Hughes, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews, including his “knot head” niece, Kristal Andrews, and her three special boys; his special friends, David Montgomery, Cody Montgomery and Jim Thorpe; and all his adopted kids.
Funeral services for Samuel Thomas Oliver will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor David Montgomery and Pastor Cody Montgomery officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, in the Lakeview Cemetery, Butler. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday, will be Greg Andrews, Greg Trivett, Jason Oliver, Jim Oliver, Rick Mullins, Landon Mullins, Jonathan Lyons, James Johnson and Matthew Hardin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Thorpe, David Carden and John Potter. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. To those who prefer, memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery.
