Two local Key Clubs recently received district recognition for community service and overall achievement.
Elizabethton High School Key Club placed second in the district for overall club service achievement, and Unaka High School’s Key Club placed first for its Major Emphasis Program in Spina Bifida Awareness.
UHS Secretary Danielle Combs was awarded an International Matching Scholarship, and the club received a $521 donation and Bronze Award for Project Eliminate.
“We are so proud of these kids and the difference they are making in the community!,” said Lisa Hayes, president of parent organization Elizabethton Kiwanis Club.
As a continuation of their efforts to serve Carter Countians, both Kiwanis and Key Clubs will do facilities maintenance at Hunter Elementary School on April 2. On this day, Kiwanians around the world celebrate One Day by giving back to their local communities. It is Elizabethton Kiwanians fourth year participating.
Members will be spreading mulch, pressure washing equipment and siding and painting hand rails. Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. until just after noon.
Lisa Hayes, Elizabethton Kiwanis President said those interested in learning more about Kiwanis or either of the Key Clubs are welcome to join or stop by the school.
