Bessie H. Scott, 90, of Watauga, went home to be with the Lord after living a wonderful and full life, on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, from the Johnson City Medical Center. Bessie was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Lem and Myrtle Hendrix Humphrey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy Todd Scott; three brothers, Gordon Humphrey, Thurman Humphrey and Paul Humphrey; and five sisters, Grace Morrison, Marge Morgan, Cleo Hess, Christine Carter and Vada Blevins.
Bessie retired from North American Rayon Corporation and was a founding member of New Hope Church of Christ. She loved to go to the Watauga Service Center and have lunch each day. She was a wonderful cook and a master seamstress. She loved her family fiercely and will be sorely missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Jimmy Scott, of Johnson City; a daughter, Wanda Jones and husband Cliff, of Elizabethton; one brother, Leo Humphrey, of Watauga; one sister, Letha Dial, of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Rhonda Bishop, of Charlotte, N.C., Robin Bolton, of Elizabethton, and Jodye Tipton and husband Chris, of Shelby, N.C.; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Bessie H. Scott will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Paul Peer, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of her daughter, at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Howard Morrison will serve as honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Saturday.
