Come one, come all, to help the band play on.
On Saturday, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Happy Valley High School band will hold its inaugural Spring Fling fundraiser and the event is set to be fun for the whole family.
The Spring Fling was originally scheduled to be held outside on the football field, but event coordinator Angela Flemmer said the event has now been moved inside the school. “We are moving it indoors because of the weather,” she said. Saturday’s forecast calls for cold temperatures and even the possibility of some snow flurries.
However, Flemmer hopes the weather won’t keep people from coming out and enjoying an afternoon of fun while helping to support the HVHS band. Money raised from the event will help to cover travel costs, uniforms, instrument repair, color guard equipment and the purchasing of music, said Flemmer, who serves as the Color Guard Instructor.
The Spring Fling will feature inflatables, a cake walk, games of hungry hungry hippos, a raffle, photo booth and vendors. A wide variety of other games will also be available for children, Flemmer said.
Originally the event was slated to include a dunk tank, but Flemmer said that was cancelled due to both the expected cold weather and not being able to find an appropriate location for the tank inside the school.
“We’ve got tons of vendors,” Flemmer said. Among the vendors selling items at the event will be ThirtyOne, Pampered Chef, Paparazzi, Mary Kay and Tupperware. There will also be a booth offering monogramming and other jewelry booths. And, of course, those attending will be able to purchase their favorite Happy Valley High School merchandise.
Flemmer said there will also be a lot of food vendors on hand to help fill the appetites worked up by all the fun and games.
“It’s going to be really fun for adults and kids,” she said.
Admission wristbands for the event are $10 for children ages 2-18. Children under two are admitted free. Adults are also admitted free but if they want to take part in the games they can purchase a $10 admission wristband. Each admission wristband grants the wearer unlimited rides on the inflatables, unlimited plays of the games, one turn on the cake walk and one free raffle ticket. Additional or separate tickets for the cake walk and raffle can be purchased at the event.
