Earl Clay Swift

Earl Clay Swift, 77, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Hillview Health Center.
Mr. Swift was born in Avery County, N.C., and was a son of the late William Butler and Ada Warren Swift. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Irick Swift; brothers, Ray Swift, Jim Swift, Willis Swift and Paul Swift; and sisters, Kate Sweezy, Francis Epperly and Imogene Greene.
Mr. Swift was a United States Army Veteran and retired from American Air Filter. He enjoyed farming and hunting in his younger days and loved to restore and repair automobiles.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Eddie Kennedy, Brentwood, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jessica and Lyndon Kennedy; sister-in-law, Martha Swift; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at New Victory Methodist Cemetery with Rev. Garland James officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family would like to thank Hillview Health Center for its care and compassion over the last six years. JoAnn Rash
JoAnn Rash, 72, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Holston Valley Medical Center, following an extended illness. JoAnn was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Worley Milburn Nave Sr. and Bonnie Stout Nave. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Worley Nave Jr. and James Nave, and two infant twin siblings.
JoAnn was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church and a previous member of Hunter First Baptist Church. She loved all her church family of both churches and was a faithful helper with the AWANA program. Most of all she was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Lindsay Rash II and wife Tammy, of Elizabethton; her daughter, Linda McClure and husband Mitchell, of Elizabethton; three grandsons, Andrew Rash, of Seattle, Ezekiel McClure and Josh Jones, both of Elizabethton; two great-granddaughters, Kaydence Carroll and Kennedy Jones, both of Elizabethton; her sisters, Dorothy Lett and Della Duvall (her best friend), both of Elizabethton; and a special sister-in-law, Patricia Rash, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of JoAnn Rash will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, April 18, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Rusty Verran officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service, or at the residence of her son or daughter at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Juanita McKinney Trivett
Juanita McKinney Trivett, 80, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center. Juanita was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Estella McKinney. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Joseph Trivett.
Juanita worked many years at Levi Strauss and was a member of Old Horseshoe Freewill Baptist Church. She was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by one son, Ricky Trivett, of Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Amanda Cross and husband Adam and one great-granddaughter, Emily Cross, of Elizabethton; two step-daughters, Wanda Trivett McKinney and her four children, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, of Flint, Mich., and Pansy Trivett Harrison and her two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, of Little Milligan; and one sister, Barbara McKinney Clawson and husband Robert Clawson Jr. and family, of Granite Falls, N.C.

John Ellsworth Trilling Jr.
John Ellsworth Trilling Jr., 59, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
John was born April 28, 1956 in Washington, D.C. He had lived in Carter County since 1977.
John served in the United States Navy. He was an electrician.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Ellsworth Trilling Sr.
Survivors include his mother, JoAnn Matheson Trilling Troike, and an honorary brother, Dennis Helmick, Roan Mountain.
It was his wish to be cremated and no services are planned.

Lessie Ellis Turbyfill
Lessie Ellis Turbyfill, 83, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, from Roan Highlands Nursing Center. Lessie was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late David Charles and Mae Perry Ellis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Turbyfill; five brothers, Ray Ellis, Carroll Ellis, Dale Ellis, Frank Ellis and Charles Ellis; two sisters, Helen Ledford and Elizabeth Winters; a brother-in-law, A.J. Ledford; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ellis and Glenda Ellis.
Lessie retired as a clerk for Jewel Tea Food Store and was a member of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church. She was a loving mother and was loved within her community by all that knew her. She enjoyed sewing, reading, quilting and spending time with her family, especially her twin brother.
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Connie Hennings and husband Phillip, of Roan Mountain; a grandson, Daniel Hennings and wife Karen, of Sumter, S.C.; a great-granddaughter, Nicole Rudisel and husband Brent, of Zionsville, Ind.; a great-grandson, Jordan Hennings, of Sumter, S.C.; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester Ellis, of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Martha Young and husband Bill and Clara Heaton and husband Walter, all of Elizabethton; and three sisters-in-law, Wilma Ellis, of Elk Park, N.C., Betty Ellis, of Maryland, and Bonnie Ellis, of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Lessie Ellis Turbyfill will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church with Pastor Gerald Holly officiating. Music will be under the direction of Pastor Gerald and Gloria Holly. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. Dianne Reynolds Cole
Dianne Reynolds Cole, 73, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Ind., after an extended illness. She was born on May 9, 1942 and was originally from Rockland, Maine. Throughout her adult life, she was a longtime resident of Savannah, Ga., where she married her beloved husband of 40 years, Ed Otto Cole, on May 1, 1976. After retiring, Ed and Dianne moved to New Salisbury, Ind., in 2002.
Dianne was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Carlton “Slim” Lounsbury, and her sister, Donna Anderson.
She was the loving mother of Zena (Lee) Whittinghill of New Salisbury, Ind., Byron (Davina) Stauffer of Hollywood, Fla., Kimberly Cole of Savannah, Ga., Keith Cole of Savannah, Ga., and Ashley (Melissa) Cole of Midway, Ga., as well as the doting grandmother of Erin (Justin) Lucas of Gallatin, Tenn., Byron (Katrina) Stauffer of Staten Island, N.Y., Kyle (Elizabeth) Whittinghill of Georgetown, Ind., DeAnna Whittinghill of New Salisbury, Ind., Austin Cawich of Hollywood, Fla., Caleb and Cara Thomas, Nicholas Heery, Coda Cole and Krysta Lovett, all of Savannah/Midway, Ga. Dianne was the proud great-grandmother of Emma and Jackson Lucas, Hailey Stauffer and Kalvin Whittinghill. She is also survived by her brother, Mark “Sonny” Lounsbury of Mount Joy, Pa.; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alta and Fred Cole of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service to honor Dianne’s life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the Cole Family Cemetery in Elizabethton, Tenn. Patricia “Pat” Ann Emmons Chambers
Patricia “Pat” Ann Emmons Chambers, 77, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord and family on Monday, April 11, 2016, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following an extended illness. Pat was born in Coral Ridge, Ky., to the late Guy W. Emmons II and Alda Greisinger Emmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Chambers Sr., and one brother, Bob Emmons.
Pat was a 1956 graduate of Southern High School in Louisville, Ky. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church. Pat was very creative and enjoyed making crafts, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, James R. Chambers Jr. and wife Marjorie and Philip David Chambers and wife Robin, all of Elizabethton; two daughters, Joyce Karen Son and husband Timothy, of Louisville, Ky., and Patrice Darlene Moore, of Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Guy W. Emmons III, of Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Wayne Gaskins
Wayne Gaskins, 69, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Wayne was born in Cherry Lake, Fla., to the late Bullock and Lola Giddens Gaskins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Eston Gaskins and Charles Russell Gaskins.
Wayne was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne in the Vietnam Era from 1969-1970. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. He married his wife, Sierra, on June 24, 1987 in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. He was by trade a telephone cable splicer. He was a NRA lifetime member and loved to fish and hunt.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 28 years, Sierra Brown Gaskins, of the home; his children, Melinda Lee Gaskins and husband Jimmy, of Flint, Mich., Tammy Lynn Cowart and husband Robert, of Lakeland, Fla., and his beloved Goffin’s cockatoo, Marshmallow, of 25 years; one brother, Earl Bullock Gaskins, of Johnson City; and three sisters, Tisha Earlene Gaskins Tooke, Luvenia Gaskins Vaughan and Frandy Gail Gaskins Myers, all of Lakeland, Fla. His beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Billy Bob Cornett
Billy Bob Cornett, 61, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Fredrick Charles and Annie Amelia Hinkle Cornett.
Mr. Cornett was a carpenter, security officer and custodian until his early retirement. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go camping.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior, Albert, Charles “Baldie” and Howard “Latcheye” Cornett, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include three sisters, Emma Jean Harmon, of the home, Earlene (Roy) Phillips, Fall Branch, and Joyce (Jeff) Henson, Elizabethton; a brother, Floyd (Gloria) Cornett, Pensacola, Fla.; and his special friend, Donna Whitehead.
A memorial service for Billy Bob Cornett will be conducted at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Joel Cook officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of Joyce and Jeff Henson, Elizabethton. Helen V. Krug
GREAT BEND, Kansas — Helen V. Krug, 96, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas.
She was born July 26, 1919 at Otis, Kansas, and was a daughter of David E. and Mollie (Schneider) Brack.
She married Edward Krug on October 7, 1940 at Hoisington, Kansas. He died May 19, 1990.
Mrs. Krug owned and operated Cinderella Shoppe, Newton Drive-In, The Chicken House and E & E Glass. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Krug, and two brothers, Clarence V. Brack and Ervin Brack.
Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Lowry and her husband Duane of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Marlies Krug of Great Bend, Kansas; four grandchildren, Eric Krug, Kevin Lowry, Kregg Lowry and Kayla Wright; and five great-grandchildren, Braxton Lowry, Mason Wright, Colin Wright, Evan Wright and Elizabeth Krug.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Monson officiating. Interment was in the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Bryant Funeral Home.
