The Veterans Walk of Honor is a continuously developing memorial that brings pride to Carter County residents and family members. Every few months, names are added to the wall of veterans that are either current or former residents.

On Monday and Tuesday, 38 names were added to the total 5,694 from all branches of the military.

“The bricks are a permanent way to honor their service and to memorialize them in a beautiful public setting,” said Sam Shipley, Chairman of the Elizabethton/Carter County Veterans War Memorial Committee.

The first bricks mounted  on the wall were engraved in Georgia, but today, they have been mounted and are engraved as people reserve them.

The black granite bricks cost $100 and may be purchased for living or deceased veterans that either live in or once lived in Carter County.

David Andes with Hitchcock Memorials is engraving the bricks this time. Shipley said 118 bricks are still available. When they receive enough orders for more bricks, he said they will likely build another wall to continue to honor the service of local men and women.
