Wesley Steven Holtsclaw, 47, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was a son of Luther Taylor of Elizabethton and Patsy Pritchard Rash of Johnson City and was born in Carter County. He was preceded in death by a half brother, Tommy Taylor.
Mr. Holtsclaw was a contractor and was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching both football and basketball. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and riding his motorcycle.
Those left to cherish his memory, in addition to his parents, include his adopted father, Wesley Holtsclaw and his wife, Rita, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; his wife of 22 years, Tamara Wright Holtsclaw, of the home; three sons, Josh Wright and his wife, Christy, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Terry Woodcock of Knoxville, Tenn., and Stephen Holtsclaw of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Avery Wright and Brantley Wright, both of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four brothers, Ronnie Holtsclaw of Elizabethton, Tenn., Gary Holtsclaw of Watauga, Tenn., Allen Holtsclaw of Gray, Tenn., and Dwayne Holtsclaw of Crossnore, N.C.; one sister, Tammy Taylor of Johnson City, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Wesley Steven Holtsclaw will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Don Holt officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. The graveside service and inurnment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Poore and Curtis Holtsclaw. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday.
