Application deadlines are quickly approaching for two exciting upcoming 4-H events for Carter County youth.
The newest of these events, Project Celebration Day, is an event uniting 4-H Clubs from the region for a learning experience at the Appalachian Fair Grounds.
“Students will choose three classes to attend,” said UT Extension Assistant Melissa Shelton. “They can learn how to sew, how to make cupcakes, or about photograph and shooting sports, among others.”
The event will take place on Thursday, May 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for students in grades 4-8. Lunch will be provided. Students may apply by calling 423-542-1842, and the deadline to register is May 13. The cost for the full day is $20.
Applications are due May 10 for students planning to attend 4-H camp, at which students enjoy learning skills with hands-on activities, playing outside with friends, and experiencing nature.
Junior camp is open to students in grades 4-6 and will take place from May 30 to June 3 for $275 per student.
Junior High camp is open to students in grades 6-8 and will take place from July 11-15 for $290 per student.
Camp will be held at the Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greeneville, and is always an exciting week for attendees
Shelton said they can sing and play games around a campfire, learn about shooting sports and safety, swim in the pool, attend flag ceremonies, eat delicious meals, learn about the environment, and make a variety of items in the craft shop using tools like an airbrush or scroll saw.
Additional upcoming 4-H events include:
• May 13: 4-H Demonstration Day at Northeast State Community College in Elizabethton for grades 5-8
• May 16: Wildlife Judging Competition for grades 4-12
• May 18: Cloverbowl for grades 5-8
