Bobby L. “Bob” Ford, 75 years of age, of Elizabethton, second oldest child born to the late Gurney and Fairy Ford on May 5, 1941, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in Blowing Rock, N.C., but lived most of his life in Elizabethton. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his older and dearly loved brother, Carl Ford, and a brother-in-law, Ed DeVault.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Ford; his step-daughter, Angie Johnson (Sean) and their daughters, Maggie and Mollie; his brothers, Richard Ford (Ruth Ann) of Talbott, Tenn., and Harry Ford (Vickie), and his sisters, Emma Rose Snodgrass (Mike), Carolyn DeVault and Rita Ford, all of Elizabethton, Tenn. Four nieces and one nephew also survive, as well as his two very special friends, Elmer Rehart and J.D. (DeeDee) Stanley.
Bob was a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. He worked many years at Jellico Grocery Company (H.T. Hackney Company) before owning and operating his own automotive parts business. He enjoyed working outside.
It was Bob’s request that there be no formal services, however, the family requests your presence to honor Bob and greet his friends, and friends of his family, at a memorial service to be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Elizabethton Church of Christ with Mr. Roby Ellis, minister, and Dennis Pierce, assistant minister, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Private family graveside services will be observed with interment at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain States Hospice for the loving care given to Bob and his family during his illness. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society, C/O Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 in honor of Bob.
