Harold Burns Townsend

Harold Burns Townsend, 84, of Roan Mountain, went to be with his Lord on Monday, June 6, 2016, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
A native of Somerville, N.J., he was a son of the late G. Lon and Rosa Miller Townsend.
Mr. Townsend was a graduate of Highland High School, Yakima, Wash. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Boeing Corporation, Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Townsend had lived in Roan Mountain for the past 11 years and was a member of First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, and the Men’s Sunday School Class. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-son, Michael Mathis, and by two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Shelby Isbell Townsend; two daughters, Laura Townsend and Rebecca Freeman, both of Vancouver, Wash.; a step-daughter, Janna Begole, Tampa, Fla.; three great-grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Sandra Gill, Yakima, Wash.; one brother, Hugh Townsend, Roan Mountain; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Harold Burns Townsend will be conducted at 12:15 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Geren Street officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 1:45 p.m. Friday at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Roan Mountain. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center. The family will receive friends from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
