Earl Waitsel “Waits” Puckett, 76, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born December 4, 1939 in Heaton, N.C., to the late Maxine Puckett.
Mr. Puckett had lived most of his life in Carter County. He was a retired tree trimmer.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Hill, Elizabethton; three brothers, Howard Thomas Puckett and wife Jackie, Johnson City, Roger Tolley, Elizabethton, and Doyle Puckett and wife Cindy, Watauga; one sister, Clara Cain, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Leo “Boss Hog” Humphrey.
Funeral services for Earl Waitsel “Waits” Puckett will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ed Davis and the Rev. Danny Osborne officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, will be Walt Pierce, Cag Mottern, David Blevins, Larry Kiser, Jeff Humphrey and Leon Humphrey. Honorary pallbearers will be “Boss Hog” Humphrey, Kevin Markland and Dana Markland. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to all his doctors and nurses at Johnson City Medical Center, the Certified Nursing Assistants, the Bright Star Workers and to his many friends and clients. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery.
