Junior Jones, 85, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Hermitage Health Center after a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Nanny Frye Jones.
Junior served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He operated a pool room in Elizabethton for several years. He was a member of High Point Baptist Church, Roan Mountain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Johnson Jones, October 23, 2001; a brother, Bill Jones; and two sisters, Ruth Hill and Iva Bennett.
Survivors include his children, Barbara Teel, Elizabethton, and Tony Jones and wife Juliet, Roswell, Ga.; two grandsons, Jesse and Chris Teel; a granddaughter, Tonya Jones; a great-granddaughter, Katielyn Hallman; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Herman Lyons.
Funeral services for Junior Jones will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Johnson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, will be Todd Jones, John Campbell, Richard “Jarfly” Dugger, Dean Ritchie, Scott Ritchie and Allen Ritchie. Honorary pallbearers will be his many friends in Elizabethton and Johnson City including his best friend, Herman Lyons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or woundedwarriorproject.org. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
