Janet Bernice Whitehead McCorkle, 69, of Martinez, Ga., passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born October 13, 1946 in Hampton, Tenn., to the late Elmer and Effie Holtzsclaw Whitehead.
Janet had lived in Florida and Georgia most of her life. In earlier years, she attended Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church in Hampton.
Survivors include her daughter, Javonia Oliver Everhart and her husband Mike; two grandchildren, Leanna Powell and Carey Powell and wife Heather; two great-grandchildren, Brian and Jackson Powell; two sisters, Joyce Matherly, Elizabethton, and Phyllis Vines and husband Harry, Elizabethton; and two brothers, Charles Whitehead and wife Grace, Pensacola, Fla., and Leslie Whitehead and wife Gloria, Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Janet Bernice Whitehead McCorkle will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Music will be provided by Joel Crisp. Interment will follow in the Whitehead Cemetery, Hampton. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of a sister, Joyce Matherly.
