Boys & Girls Club hosts ‘Friendship Lunch’

On Friday, the Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton and Carter County will be hosting a Friendship Lunch as a way to raise awareness and support for the Club and its programs.
“We do ‘friendraising events’ a few times a year,” said Elizabeth Williams, the Resource Development and Marketing Director for the Club. “It’s not a fundraiser. It’s just an opportunity for us to bring people into the Club to see what we are about.”
Holding events like the Friendship Lunch helps the Club build relationships with members of the community while introducing them to the Club, the programs it offers and the children it serves.
Williams said the Club tries to do three “friendraising events” each year but this is the first time they have held a Friendship Lunch. In the past the Club has held Friendship Breakfast events, and those have been successful, she said.
On Friday, attendees will meet at the Club at noon where they will hear a brief presentation on the Club and its programs by Executive Director Ginny Wright. The attendees will then move through the lunch line and take their seats at the cafeteria-style tables to enjoy their lunches alongside the children enrolled in the Club’s Summer Program.
“We want people to experience what the Club really is,” Williams said.
Because the lunch is taking place during the height of the Summer Program and because it also involves having to plan for a meal, Williams said those interested in attending must RSVP to her at the Club by 5 p.m. on Thursday and spaces are limited. To RSVP for the Friendship Lunch, please contact Elizabeth Williams at 423-543-2946 or by e-mail at ewilliams@bgcecc.org.
The Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton and Carter County is located at 104 Hudson Drive. For more information on the Club or its programs, or to make a donation, contact the Club by calling 423-543-2946 or visit their website at www.bgcecc.org.
