Charles “Eddie” Peters

Charles “Eddie” Peters, 62, of Morganton, N.C., died Thursday, July 14, 2016. Born in Meigs County, Ohio on October 13, 1953, he was a son of the late Auda Ralph Peters and Betty Jane Cheatham Peters.
Eddie was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a past governor of Western North Carolina and an 18-year member of the Glen Alpine Ruritan Club. He was a very giving person who loved his community. He was currently serving as Alderman for Glen Alpine and was a big supporter of the Southmountain Children’s Home.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Judy Diane Bowers Peters, of the home; daughters, Misty Dawn Haun and her husband, Eric, and their children, Colton, Dominique and Sage, and Crystal Birchfield and her husband, Johnny, and their son, Logan, all of Tennessee; step-daughters, Kim Browning and her husband, Heath, and their children, Jessica and Justin, and Pepper Dyer and her husband, David, and their son, Austin, all of Morganton; sisters, Becky Lay and her husband, John, Gena Pierce and her husband, Steve, and Alice Peters, all of Tennessee; special friends, Tim and Karen Suttles of Glen Alpine and Sam Crowder of Tennessee; and his special canine companion, Hachi.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at the church at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Southmountain Children’s Home, P.O. Box 3387, Morganton, NC 28680 or to the Nowlings Chapel Youth Fund, 5061 US 64 South, Morganton, NC 28655.
