Residents are invited to enjoy music and a family film next Saturday when the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department presents the first ever “Movie In The Park” event.
“This is going to be a great event,” Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mains said. “We’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time.”
To help present this night full of free family entertainment, the Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with the Elizabethton Lions Club and WBEJ Radio.
The event will take place at the Covered Bridge Park beginning at 7 p.m. with the weekly performance of Covered Bridge Jams.
The nationally known Fiddlin’ Carson Peters Band will headline the performance Friday night.
“During the concert we will celebrate the 70th anniversary of WBEJ Radio as the station will be offering a chance to win a variety of great prizes for those in attendance,” Mains said.
Immediately following Carson Peters, the Elizabethton Lions Club will present Movie In The Park at 9 p.m., which Mains said is an outdoor movie event that promises to be a night to remember.
Mains said details regarding the movie to be shown are still being finalized but said it will be a family-friendly movie that all ages can enjoy.
“We are extremely excited about this community event,” Mains said. “It wouldn’t be possible without the Lions Club and their interest in our community.”
“We are limited financially in what we can do, but when we are able to partner with groups in the community that is when we can really make a difference,” he added. “Having the support of the Elizabethton Lions Club has made this event possible and we greatly appreciate their membership for teaming up with us to make this event happen.”
Members of the Lions Club are as excited about the event as the staff of the Parks and Recreation Department.
“It’s an opportunity for us to let the community know who we are and what we do,” said Elizabethton Lions Club President Yolanda Vestal.
During the event, the Lions Club will be selling concessions including pizza, popcorn, drinks and other items. Proceeds from the concession sales will go to support the community programs supported by the Lions Club.
Vestal said if the event goes well the Club hopes to be able to sponsor a Movie In The Park night each year as a fundraising opportunity. “We hope to make this our big yearly event,” she said.
Those wishing to attend are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the evening of entertainment in the park. For more information about this community event contact the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department at 423-547-6441.
