Lewis Madison (Big Daddy) Jones Jr., of Collierville, Tenn., passed away on August 4, 2016, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Janette Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Moritz Jones of Collierville, Tenn.; his sister, Margaret (Richard) Ashworth of Knoxville, Tenn.; step-children, Alissa (Khary) Goodwin and Patrick (Stephanie) Moore of Memphis, Tenn.; and his beloved step-grandson, Gates Moore. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Shirley Moritz of Tuscumbia, Ala.
Lewis was from Elizabethton, Tenn., and graduated from Elizabethton High School where he was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of the University of Memphis, played varsity football, and was a member of the M Club He was an avid duck hunter and golfer. Lewis was an investment banker retired from SunTrust.
Mr. Jones chose to donate his body to UT Medical School. A funeral to celebrate Lewis’ rich and full life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Memphis, Tenn., Monday, August 8, at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be Patrick Moore, Travis Ashworth, Khary Goodwin, Kent Devinney, Jack Whitaker, Ken Carmack, Larry Williams, Jeff Cox and Terry Pitts. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Armstrong, George Carey, Dr. Paul Smith, Kirby Jordan, Shep Shirley, Barry Molder and Dr. Garrett Davis. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UT/West Institute for Cancer Research of Germantown, Tenn., or the Tiger Scholarship Fund at the University of Memphis or to the charity of your choice.
