Walter W. Teague

Walter W. Teague, 85, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Hillview Health Center. Mr. Teague was born in Carter County, a son of the late Clyde J. and Mildred Price Teague. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Wallace Teague, in 2005; a sister, Louise Berry; a brother, Kenneth Teague; five brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
Mr. Teague was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a former employee of NARC and Bemberg Corporation and a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. He was formerly an Elder of the Hampton Christian Church. He liked to fish, jog and ride his bicycle and had been a lifeguard. He loved the Tennessee Vols and was an avid New York Yankees fan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 57 years, Helen “Beautiful” Smith Teague, of the home; a daughter-in-law, Angie Williams, her husband, Michael Williams, and son, Peyton, all of Hampton; a granddaughter, Cassandra Vanover and her husband, David, Elizabethton; two great-granddaughters, Alexandria Miller and Victoria Miller, both of Elizabethton; two step-great-grandchildren, Skyler Vanover and Kapri Vanover, both of Elizabethton; and four sisters, Barbara Helbert and her husband, Gary, Madison Heights, Va., Carolyn Compton, Albemarle, N.C., Doris Jenkins, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Juanita Dawson and her husband, Ralph, Kingsport. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Teague will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 9, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Eddy Craft and Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, ministers, officiating. Congregational singing will be under the direction of the church singers. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at the home at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Walter and Dr. McCoy of the VA Hospital. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet the family at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff, nurses and CNAs of Hillview Health Center for all the love and care shown to Mr. Teague and the family during his time there.
