Police are investigating a weekend burglary at the Carter County Recycling Center.
On Monday morning, officers of the Elizabethton Police Department responded to the Recycling Center, located at 411 Cherokee Park Drive, after the center’s operator called 911 to report the building had been burglarized.
When officers arrived they spoke with Jacob Johnson, operator of the Carter County Recycling Center. Johnson told officers when he arrived for work around 7:40 a.m. on Monday he discovered the facility had been entered and an item stolen.
Johnson told officers the burglary occurred sometime between when the facility closed on Friday and when he arrived for work on Monday morning.
“Johnson advised that the computer monitor was missing and it appeared that several drawers had been rummaged through,” EPD Cpl. Sarah Ellison said. “The computer hard drive was inaccessible to the person or persons that were involved in the incident.”
Ellison noted the facility has a security system that is recorded through the computer. After Johnson was able to obtain another computer monitor and hook it into the computer system officers were able to retrieve security footage from the facility.
According to Ellison, the video footage showed the burglary happened around 9 p.m. on Sunday night. The video shows several subjects involved in the incident as well as images of the vehicle they were using, Ellison said.
Anyone who has any information regarding the burglary is asked to contact the Elizabethton Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 423-547-6415 or call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 423-542-7574.
