In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Powell Ellis, on May 1, 2015.
Gloria was a kind, compassionate and fun-loving woman who loved animals and demonstrated that love by dog sitting. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping and traveling. She was a member of Keenburg Freewill Baptist Church.
She has left behind her loving children, Melissa Hodge and her husband Russell, and David Ellis and his wife Rhonda; two grandchildren, Michael Hodge and his wife Rebecca, and Emily Hodge; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Maddux Hodge, all of Elizabethton; her brothers, Tony Shipley and his wife Lynda, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Randy Shipley and his wife Sharon, Jamesville, N.C.; seven brothers and sisters-in-law, including one very special sister-in-law, Jennifer Birchfield, and her very special friend, Judy Orr, as well as several wonderful and caring neighbors. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
The committal and entombment service for Mrs. Gloria Jean Ellis will be conducted privately in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. However, friends are invited to visit with the family at Gloria’s home. Active pallbearers will be Michael Hodge, Jason Shipley, Blake Shipley, Shae Donovan, Steath Daughtery and Mike Merritt. Jason Shipley will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family would like to extend a sincere and appreciative thank you to the staff of Karing Hearts Cardiology for the compassionate care given to Mrs. Ellis.
