The City of Elizabethton and Elizabethton Police Department saw a couple personnel moves take place Wednesday.
Elizabethton City Manager Jerome Kitchens confirmed to the Elizabethton Star that EPD Chief Greg Workman was offered the position as the city’s Purchasing Director and accepted, effectively resigning as Chief of Police.
Kitchens cited Workman’s 20-plus years experience in personnel and dedication to work as an asset for the city.
Workman takes over the position from Gerald Harrell, who resigned last week to focus on working on his father’s farm in the Morristown area.
Following Workman’s resignation as police chief, Kitchens stated that EPD Capt. Jason Shaw will serve in the interim as the EPD Chief. Kitchens added that the city will begin advertising for the position and use their channels through the Municipal Technical Assistance Service organization to fill the position in a timely manner.
Workman assumed the role of Chief in 2013 following former chief Matt Bailey’s resignation.
