Lulean Elizabeth Dolan Emmert, 95, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness.
A native of Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Macie Nelson Dolan.
Mrs. Emmert was a homemaker who loved working in her garden and cooking. She was a member of Big Springs Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold E. Emmert; a son, Roy G. Emmert; two grandsons, Kit Brian McQueen and Donnie Emmert; one granddaughter, Renee Birchfield; and by four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary “Midge” and Kit McQueen and Brenda and Randy Crowe, all of Elizabethton; five granddaughters, Melissa Buxton, Donna Vaughn, Kristen Colon, Sharon Tipton and Robin Causby; two grandsons, Nathan Crowe and Chris McQueen; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Lulean Elizabeth Dolan Emmert will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, September 26, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Glen Layfield, minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be her church family. The family would like to express a very special “Thank You” to the entire staff of Pine Ridge Care Center for the excellent care our mother received during her stay there. Kitty W. Livingston
Kitty W. Livingston, 80, of Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016. She was a daughter of the late Ernest William and Aileen Dora Cash Webb.
Mrs. Livingston spent the majority of her life working as an interior decorator. She was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, Kitty was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Huffine.
Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Kevin Peters of Gray and J.D. Livingston II and his wife, Beth, of Elizabethton; two daughters, Mary June Livingston and her husband, Randy Miller, of Hampton, and Laurie Burleson and her husband, Doug, of Elizabethton; a sister, Chickie Renfro of Johnson City; and seven grandchildren, Christina Minga and husband, Johnathan, Sarah Rowan and husband, John, Michael Lafollette and wife, Leann, Tyler Burleson and Kristie, Trey Burleson, J.D. Livingston III and William Livingston. Four great-grandchildren also survive.

Callis Verlon Brickey
Callis Verlon Brickey, 79, of Kingsport, a loving friend to all, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Holston Valley Medical Center.
A native of Wise County, Va., he was a son of the late Earnest and Viola Matthews Brickey. He had lived most of his life in Kingsport.
Mr. Brickey was a concrete finisher and a former employee of TVA. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. He loved to go fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hershel, Dennis and Luckey Brickey, and two sisters, Donna Brickey and Betty Chandler.
Survivors include the love of his life, Reda Berry; his children, Karen Brickey and Johnny Brickey, both of Kingsport; his grandchildren, Gary—Merissa Brickey, Ginger—Brandon Osborne and Makayla Catron—John, Shawn Cordell and daughters; one great-grandson, Brantley River Brickey; his sisters, Ronda Stanley—Billy, Violet Brickey and Tina Brickey Blevins, all of Kingsport, and soon to be a great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Osborne; his brothers, Lindsey Brickey—Sue, and Sterling Brickey, all of Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and Reda’s children, Charity—James, Joshua—Carol and special grandchildren, James, Doug, Greg, Tyler and Keshia.
A private service at his request will be conducted Friday in the Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Hampton. Nell Dare Grindstaff Seaboch, 88, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Tilmon H. and Stella Pierce Grindstaff.
Nell retired from Kay’s Ice Cream. She was a member of Piercetown Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chal L. Seaboch; two sons, Donnie L. and Thomas H. Seaboch; two brothers, Ray and Glenn Grindstaff; and two sisters, Charlotte Lunceford and JoAnn Grindstaff.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, James Edward and Martha Seaboch, Elizabethton, and Freddie and Dee Seaboch of Texas; nine grandsons, six granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Reed and Sandra Grindstaff, both of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie Claire Irene Bowers
Marie Claire Irene Bowers, 76, formerly of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away September 15, 2016, in DeLand, Fla. Claire was born April 8, 1940 in Barre, Vt., to the late Maurice Boucher and Anna Dessureau.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Lynn Bowers of Elizabethton, Tenn., and her siblings, Pauline Boucher, Robert Boucher, Helene Cashin, Diane Boucher and Phillipe Boucher. She is also survived by her seven children, Michael Thomas Bowers and spouse Teresa, Lisa Carol Comstock and spouse Monroe, Daniel Leonard Bowers and spouse Fabby, David Joel Bowers and spouse Jean, Maria Lana Robinson and spouse Ray, Jennifer Leigh Ellis and spouse Brant and Rebecca Anne Robinson and spouse Shane. Along with her 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren whom she adored, her arms were always open wide to snuggle with each and every one!
Claire and Roger met at a talent show, while both were serving in the United States Army. They were married June 2, 1962 and spent a lifetime devoted to family and God. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she and Roger were sealed together for all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple. Both her heritage and the heritage of her husband were deeply important to her. She loved the good people of East Tennessee for their country kindness and their good home cooking! Claire was a creative homemaker who made every house a home with her many talents of cooking, crafting and sewing. She sewed clothes for her children, curtains for the home and blankets for charity. Claire made the most of their income and the children were always blessed by her resourcefulness. She saw the good in people of all nationalities and faiths and had a deep interest in other cultures. She loved classical music, musicals and dance. Claire always had a book to read and a song to sing. Her later years were spent dedicated to humanitarian aid as she sewed hundreds of quilts, clothing and receiving blankets for children local and abroad. She also enjoyed teaching quilting classes. Claire always had a smile to give and will be remembered for her kindness, charity and song.
A public viewing will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 211 Mayflower Road, Johnson City, Tenn., followed by a memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Marie Claire Irene Boucher Bowers at 2 p.m. with Bishop Warren Jones officiating. Following the memorial service there will be a procession and short graveside service at Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Burnette Oaks Taylor Hathaway

Burnette Oaks Taylor Hathaway, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was born September 10, 1930 in the Roan Mountain area to the late John Marion and Flossie Whittington Oaks.
Mrs. Hathaway had lived most of her life in Elizabethton and was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a follower of Christ since her baptism in 1945 at West Side Christian Church and had been a member of the church since that time. She was a godly mother that showered her children, grandchildren and family with love and kindness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert B. Taylor and Ralph B. Hathaway, and by two brothers and four sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Kathy Campbell and husband Scott, John “Randy” Taylor and wife Sandra and Connie Davis; five grandchildren, Richard Akers, Brian Taylor, Daniel Bledsoe, Kari Ward and Elaine Arnold; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Johnnie Pinckard and Mary Ellen Parks; several nieces and nephews; and three step-children, Betsy Snyder, Sherri Pierce and Shane Hathaway.
A private graveside service for Burnette Oaks Taylor Hathaway will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Kingsport, with Dr. Greg Key officiating. Nina “Faye” Nave
Nina “Faye” Nave, 73, of Hernando, Fla., died at home on Saturday, September 17, 2016, following a lengthy illness. Faye was born in Banner Elk, N.C., on November 17, 1942 to the late Clifton and Bertha (Heaton) Roark and moved to Florida in 1968 from Elizabethton, Tenn. She assisted her husband as bookkeeper for Glenn’s Underground Trenching Service and Hernando Bait & Tackle Shop. Prior to retirement, she was a store clerk for the Majic Market Convenience Store in Inverness. Faye enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers and plants around her residence. She was a member of Ft. Cooper Baptist Church in Inverness, Fla., where she attended for many years.
Left to mourn her loss is her husband of 54 years, Glenn Nave; one brother, Larry Roark of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; and four sisters, Jean Crain and Sandra Miller, both of Elizabethton, Tenn., Judy Heaton and Shirley Johnson, both of Roan Mountain, Tenn. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Nina “Faye” Nave will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 23, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Marne Palmani officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Joseph Garvin Davis
Joseph Garvin Robinson Davis, 80, of Elizabethton, Tenn., formerly of Iuka, Miss., died Friday, September 16, 2016, at his residence.
Mr. Davis was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a retired pipe fitter from TVA. He was a Mason, and enjoyed playing guitar and singing with friends around the campfire. Joe Garvin Davis was a well-known colorful character, and a local expert, wherever he was.
He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Hyder (Bill) of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Jennifer DeLoach (Cliff) of Talking Rock, Ga.; one brother, Bobby Scruggs of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Lessel Robinson of Iuka, Jean Wilson of Ooltewah, Tenn., Sarah McBee of Iuka and Martha Barlar of Pulaski, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Joey Bowers, Andy Bowers, Lacie Hyder, Kip DeLoach, Ben DeLoach and Delaney DeLoach; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph D. Davis; his parents, Elmo and Roxie Davis; his birth parents, Lester Delaney Robinson and Oma Lee Robinson Scruggs; two sisters, Elaine Long and Dorothy Forrest; and one brother, Aaron Robinson.

Norma Jean Guinn Montgomery
Norma Jean Guinn Montgomery, 74, of Johnson City, entered into the arms of Jesus after a lengthy illness on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a Godly mother, devoted wife, loving grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Anybody that ever met her could tell how loving a woman she was. She always spread love through her Christian and positive attitude to everyone regardless of her physical condition. She was the virtuous mother from Proverbs 31 devoted to her family, God and church all of her life.
She was a native of Roan Mountain and Carter County, Tenn., where she grew up and met her sweetheart. She was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Shell Guinn.
Mrs. Montgomery was a member of Cherokee Community Freewill Baptist Church, which she loved with all her heart and never missed unless she was sick. She was a prayer warrior for many friends and family, soldier of the cross and sung with her family, the Montgomery Family, for over 30 years. She always had a song on her heart because music was her life. She was a member of the Shepherd Daughters’ group from Cherokee Community FWB Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Guinn, and sons, Jonathan and Mike Montgomery, as well as many close dear friends.
She is survived by her husband of over 53 years, John Montgomery, of the home, her sweetheart and soul mate; four children, David and wife Teresa Montgomery of Johnson City, Amy Montgomery Belisle and husband Terry Belisle of Abingdon, Va., Jerry Montgomery of Gray, Tenn., and Karen Montgomery, of the home; six grandchildren, Michael Paul Montgomery II, Matthew and wife Whitney Montgomery, LaBreeska Montgomery DeBord and husband David DeBord, John Belisle, Carson Belisle and Victoria Belisle; four great-grandchildren, Christian Blevins, Brayden Montgomery, Brooklyn Montgomery and Averie Montgomery; siblings, Jim and wife Lola Guyn, Betty Hoilman, Rick and wife Barbara Guinn, and Pam and husband Danny Cooke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Honorable mentions include Sarahann Montgomery and all her sisters in Christ.

Marion Franklin “Sunny” Harmon III
Marion Franklin “Sunny” Harmon III, 79, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Meridian, Miss., he was a son of the late Marion F. Harmon Jr. and Beatrice Greene Harmon.
Sunny grew up in Johnson City and graduated from University High. He worked a number of years as a supervisor for Wright & Lopez and also Modern Equipment Company. He also lived a number of years in Black Mountain, N.C., retiring from PGC Corporation. He attended Blue Springs Christian Church where he loved worshipping with his beloved church family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Lovelace Harmon; his second wife, Mary Reese Harmon; and his sister, Fran Cameron.
Survivors include his sons, Jeff and wife Teresa, Elizabethton, Jerome, Greeneville, Tenn., and Joey and wife Michelle, Radcliff, Ky.; his grandchildren, Cecilee Wieler, Jelia Harmon, Joseph Harmon, Jesalyn Harmon, Justin Harmon, Sean Hardiman, Brittne Hardiman, Alyson Burns, Zoe Burns and Joshua Burns; his brother, William Harmon, Kingsport; his sister, Bea Lahr, Rifle, Colo.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his brother-in-law, Frank Cameron, Clinton, Ohio; and his beloved “Pups,” Rusty and Sally.

Charlotte Helen Cates Carter, of Elizabethton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016, at home surrounded by her family. She was born May 18, 1933 in Hampton, Tenn., to the late George Cates and Amelia Crowe Cates.
Charlotte was a graduate of Hampton High School. She was retired from Southern Finance, where she worked for many years. Charlotte attended Westside Christian Church in Elizabethton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George Edward Cates Jr. and Clyde C. Cates, and two sisters, Hazel Heaton and Pearl Calhoun.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Bob Carter; two daughters, Sandra Fair of Austin, Texas, and Jane Thompson and husband Tim of Boone, N.C.; two sons, Dennis Carter and wife Lola of Gray, Tenn., and John Carter and wife Wendi of Johnson City, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Amanda Carter and husband Nick of Gray, Tenn., Bobby Carter of Atlanta, Ga., Graham Fair and Gavin Fair of Johnson City, Tenn., Chase Thompson and Reagan Thompson of Boone, N.C., and Jack Carter of Johnson City, Tenn.; one great-grandson, Carter Leach; one brother, Carl Cates and wife Nell of Elizabethton; one brother-in-law, Raymond Calhoun of Johnson City, Tenn.; and one sister-in-law, Helen Cates of Hampton.

Gladys Story Nadeau
JONESBOROUGH — Mrs. Gladys Story Nadeau, 85, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 17, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
Gladys was born September 2, 1931, in a home on Cherokee Road that was built by her Grandfather. She lived there until she married Charles Nadeau. Once married, she lived and raised a family in Jonesborough, Tenn.
Gladys said “I want to be a bird and fly away.” So, fly she shall to heaven to join her beloved parents, P. Earl Story and Maybell Slagle Story. In addition to her parents, Gladys will be welcomed to her Heavenly home by her siblings, Beulah, Ollie and Blaine.
God is welcoming into his Kingdom a determined woman, who remained feisty, headstrong and witty until the end of her life. She loved to not only watch religious shows on TV, but also loved shopping and gossiping with lifelong friends. Not only did she love driving along the Blue Ridge Mountains to Asheville to shop, she also enjoyed traveling to the Tanger Outlets in Sevierville. Being outside and enjoying the sun was also a favorite pastime.
Those left to miss her and cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, Charles William Nadeau; daughter, Susan Dykes and husband Fred of Johnson City, Tenn.; son, Timothy Nadeau and wife Karissa of Summerfield, N.C.; her brother, Paris Story; her sister, Delilah Story; granddaughters, Kristy Ray and husband Chad, Ashia Nadeau and Chelsey Needham and husband Dustin; grandsons, Justin Dykes and Noah Nadeau; and five great-grandchildren.
Gladys was a lifelong Christian. She never questioned God or his plan for her, even when facing major surgery. She was optimistic before going into surgery because she knew if she died, she would be in Paradise with God.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, at Union Christian Church, 3639 Cherokee Road, Jonesborough, TN 37659 officiated by the Rev. Palma L. Bennett. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. at the church, one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Union Christian Church, 3639 Cherokee Road, Jonesborough TN 37659.

Conley Wayne Fender
Conley Wayne Fender, 82, of Unicoi, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016. at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Fender was a native of Burnsville, N.C., and the son of the late Clayton and Cindy Atkins-Hutchins.
Conley was a helpful and hardworking man. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army where he served in the Korean war. Upon returning home from the military he developed a passion for electronics. He was the owner of R&M Electronics Radio Shack for over 20 years. He was a wonderful loving husband and father who was kind and strived to please others. He was a longtime member of Marbleton Free Will Baptist Church where he served as Trustee for many years.
Conley enjoyed many hobbies such as restoring old cars, hunting, fishing, football, and associating with church friends and family.
Mr. Fender was preceded in death by his brother, J.B Fender, and sister, Hattie Fender-Edwards.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Shirley Phillips-Fender; daughter, Katherine L. Miller; brother, Billy Rex Fender and wife Thelma of Tusculum, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends and family to share memories on Sunday, September 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services, Johnson City. A Celebration of Life service followed at 6 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff, Rev. Tim Broyles and Rev. Sam Ferguson officiating. A graveside service was held on Monday, September 19, at 2:30 p.m. at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers were Kenneth Phillips, John Phillips, David Phillips, Gary Fender, Mark Phillips and Johnathan Booth. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Woodby, Wayne Tipton, Michael Phillips, Dennis Edwards, Danny Edwards, Harold Block, James Laughren and Albert Fender. The family would like to express a special thanks to Brittany Simmons, niece and caretaker, and to the second floor nurses of the Cardiac Unit of Holston Valley Medical Center for the loving care given to Mr. Fender.
