Assisting events like the recent “Show on the Doe” in August, the Elizabethton Lions Club is preparing to host the inaugural benefit auction to assist the visually impaired within the community.

Helping the community is something the Elizabethton Lions Club is no stranger at doing.
The organization is gearing up to host a sizeable benefit auction at the Elizabethton Parks and Recreation facility, located on 300 Mill Street, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29.
The proceeds raised from the auction will allow the Lions Club to meet the needs of assisting residents with visual impairments. The event is the first ever put on by the event, according to Lions Club member Thomas Davis.
“The Lions Club primary focus is to help children or adults that have vision problems,” Davis said. “The Club has made a strong commitment to serve the blind and visually impaired. We work with the people by helping them get glasses or testing.”
Attendees can expect a bevy of items to select from, including many packaged gifts, theme tables, various baked goods, estate items, antiques, used and new furniture, appliances and much more.
“Our goal is to sell it all,” Davis said with a laugh. “This is the first-ever auction we’ve put on like this and it’s going to be a fun evening. We even have a professional auctioneer coming in to lead the event. We encourage people to stop by and support a great cause.”
The organization is always in the mood to support the community, Davis added. The Lions Club recently participated in the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Adopt-A-Highway program and are scheduled to hold a cleanup on US 19E, at the intersection of 19E and Elk Avenue two miles toward Bluff City on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at 9 a.m. and the public is encouraged to stop by.
The Elizabethton Lions Club meets the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Noon at the Elizabethton Beef O’Brady’s. The clubs are focused on allowing men and women who see needs in their community and come together to address the issues.
“We always encourage people to stop by and be part of the Lions Club,” Davis said.
Davis encourages any individuals to either stop by the meetings or get in touch with him at the Edward Jones Investments office by calling 423-543-2018.
