Voter says she will not vote for either of the presidential candidates

To the editor:

Concerning the upcoming election, it is extremely disturbing to me when someone says, “Here are our choices and as responsible citizens, we must vote for one of them.” Well actually, no I don’t have to do that. A greatly beloved theologian from the past once said, “Of two evils, choose neither.” (Charles Spurgeon) What if the choices were between Stalin and Hitler? Would we still be obligated to choose one?

As someone who has been a life-long conservative, I am against Hillary Clinton for all the reasons that I’m sure don’t need to be reiterated here; but I believe Donald Trump is an extremely poor and even dangerous solution to that “problem.” At this point, he has stated that he might not concede the election if he does not win. What kind of message does that send to his already stirred-up base?

I have no idea what percentage of Trump’s followers consider themselves “alt-right,” but even one percent is too much. I ask that you please read David French’s article “The Price I’ve Paid for Opposing Donald Trump,” which can be found at the following link: bit.ly/2e7IvLI. The main target of French and his family’s persecution has been a little girl they adopted from Ethiopia. Seriously? Yes, seriously.

So…I will not vote for the office of president (though I will vote down ballot). I will leave the results of this election to God, and I will have no part in installing either a left-wing or right-wing demagogue at the helm of the greatest nation on earth.

Sincerely,

Georgia Wilkinson
